Ice Bucket Challenge(การราดตัวด้วยน้ำแข็ง)
ALS Association
Ice Bucket Challenge(การราดตัวด้วยน้ำแข็ง)

For Charities, Viral Campaigns Aren’t Sustainable
The Ice Bucket Challenge has been a resounding and unexpected success for the ALS Association. As of last week, donations had topped $100 million, up from just $2 million the prior year. The campaign has been so successful that other charities are scrambling to come up with their own viral strategies. But here’s the thing: although we should applaud and celebrate the Ice Bucket Challenge, it’s important to note that it’s a once-in-a-lifetime viral event that will probably never be replicated again. It’s unsustainable. If we really want to add to the coffers of charities, and help cure cancer, AIDS, ALS, and a host of other diseases, we should make a concerted effort to increase charitable giving from 2% of GDP to 3%, and we should allow charities to invest some of that money in marketing as well as research.
