Entrepreneurs Make More Accurate Economic Forecasts

Entrepreneurs have a bad reputation for being an overly optimistic bunch who take irrational risks. But according to new research, their optimism has its advantages, too. Based on survey data of Swedish citizens from 1996-2009, self-employed respondents more accurately predicted the future health of the economy than their less entrepreneurial (and more pessimistic) peers — at least when you use GDP growth as the measurement. The upshot? Even though entrepreneurs may be unrealistic about the prospects of their own businesses, we should lend them our ears when in comes to the economy.
