หลังจากที่อาคารรานาพลาซ่าทรุดตัวลงในบังคลาเทศ
โศกนาฏกรรมเป็นตัวเตือนที่น่าเศร้า
ที่บริษัทจำนวนมากไม่ได้รับผิดชอบต่อสังคม
ที่พวกเขาประกอบการธุรกิจ

Factory Safety Takes More than Inspections

Last year, more than one thousand garment-factory workers died after the Rana Plaza building collapsed in Bangladesh. The tragedy is a sad reminder that too many companies aren’t holding themselves responsible for the societies they operate in. Even though Bangladesh’s ready-to-wear garment sector has seen rapid growth since the 1980s, and even though it makes up 13% of the country’s GDP, its workers have few rights. That needs to change. And it’s going to take more than safety inspections to make things right. At the very least, companies should take it upon themselves to institute better health measures and to improve the standard of living of their workers.
