Is Work Leading to a Baby Bust?

A longitudinal study of two generations of Wharton Business School students (1992-2012) has revealed a potential baby bust: only 42% of Millennial respondents said they planned on having children. That’s a sharp decline from the 72% of Gen Xers who answered yes to the same question a generation ago. So what’s behind the change? Let’s deal specifically with the men. Considering the long hours they expect to work, the full-on commitment that fatherhood entails, and the student debt burden they carry, many men just don’t think they can pull off having a family.
