Atm

Why Africa Is Leading the Cashless Mobile Future

Only 30% of Africans have a bank account, and even fewer have credit cards. At first blush, this seems like a major barrier to the emerging economy’s continued growth, but the situation is also encouraging mobile providers to offer innovative solutions. In a few African countries, for example, customers can withdraw cash from ATMs without a bank card — they receive a temporary pin via text message. There are many more products and services like this, and we can expect to see more in the future. Africans tend to trust mobile providers more than banks, and some of the mobile workarounds are cheaper and more convenient than more traditional services.
